Composer and instrumentalist Rick Kelley is easy to release the newest CD from Soul Ballet, titled Lavish, adhering September 11th 2007. The Artizen Music Group release features guest appearances by two of the label’s owners, Rick Braun and Richard Elliot. The pristine single from the set is “Smooth Vegas,” which features Elliot forward saxophone. Soul Ballet last topped the smooth jazz charts with “Cream,” a track from the 2005 release Dream Beat Dream. Kelly, who in joining to music continues to succeed as an actor, says that his love of contemporary pop and hip-hop helped shape the musical be wrought up of Lavish. Lavish will be the seventh CD from Soul Ballet because the self-titled 1996 debut.

“I’m really into the firm hip-hop thing, not the hardcore stuff but the pop party,” Kelley explains, adding that he enjoys the work of producers like Timbaland and Pharrell and the toil of pop acts Nelly Furtado, Gwen Stefani, and Justin Timberlake.

“Throughout the composition of the project, I was trying to conceptualize the coolest space to blend those beats and flavors with smooth jazz,” he adds. “The outcome is something no one else in contemporary jazz is doing.”

Jacqueline du Pre and the Elgar Cello Concerto, a documentary by award-winning film maker Christopher Nupen, explores the artistic personality of one of the finest performing musicians of the twentieth century, with the recurring theme of her special relationship with the Elgar’s melancholy Cello Concerto. The film begins with an account of what she did after the onset of her illness when she could no longer perform in public. It ends, at her own request, with a re-edited version of the original portrait film which sketches her childhood and the development of her musical talent, her meeting with Daniel Barenboim and their marriage in 1967, her special relationship with the Elgar concerto and, finally, a complete performance of the work with The New Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim; a performance which has become legendary.
