Ultimate Chill Out (2002)

Water Music's Ultimate Chill Out is a 2002 compilation that fields a better roster of producers than most other similarly themed packages, with tracks from such notables as Nightmares on Wax ("Rise"), Kruder & Dorfmeister ("Black Baby"), St. Germain ("Dub Experience II"), Tosca ("Busenfreund [Baby Mammoth Remix]") and Fila Brazilia ("Hairy Insides"). The remainder of the tracks are poor to middling, which nearly pulls the disc down into the bountiful crop of like-minded compilations that have more in common with wallpaper than anything with some sign of life to it. Still, this is a relatively decent package of downbeat influenced by the likes of Massive Attack, Portishead, and Tricky. Other tracks come from T Spigot, Xploding Plastix, Julee Cruise, Gotan Project, and Leggo Beast.
