PLOT: An American man (John Cusack) returns to the country of corruption occupation of Japan,Shanghai, four months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor and find a friend (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is killed. Currently he is investigating the mystery of his friend s death, he fell in love with a woman (Gong Li) and know the number of state secrets that had been hidden.

The plot development of the story is quite interesting as it sort of starts from the middle of the story, leaving audiences in curiosity. The drama then unfolds quickly, leading to an unpredictable ending with a twist. You would have to follow the characters throughout the whole movie to know what happens next. Technically, this is really an amazing piece as the lighting is also impressive, using quite a lot of low key lighting and yellowish tint to bring out the mysterious and nostalgic atmosphere.
